20 years ago, I had graduated from college and was deciding what to do with my life. I had B.A. from Florida State University in Studio Art. I went up to NYC to visit my friend, Robin and decided that if the rest of the world could live in NYC, so could I. Despite the doubters back in Jacksonville, Florida, I went for it. I had saved $2000 from waiting tables and nothing was going to stop me. On the way up to NYC, I stopped in College Park, Maryland to see my grandparents. On this cold winter's day in early 1990, my grandfather was taking me to the train station up to my final destination, Penn Station in NYC. I remember realizing that most New Yorkers wore black. And that I stood out with my colorful coat. I miss that coat! XO, M.E.
