Oops, I got caught up in how hot it is this summer.  I know, I know.  I grew up in Florida.  It was hot.  I'd get into the car and I couldn't touch the steering wheel it was so hot.  Daily rain showers cooled us off.  It was hot.

But alas, let's just say that cool beach breezes are making me happy.  And so is this sale.

Happy Birthday, ME & Blue (the Venice version!) is now 3 years old.

Happy 3 year birthday to ME (& Blue)!  As many of you know, I started the ME & Blue brand in 2000 in Philadelphia and had a boutique there for 6 years.  Then I took a break and re-opened the Venice boutique in 2009.  So technically, ME & Blue is 12 years old.  But I did a do-over with this boutique, so I'm happy if we just call it 3 years in Venice.  

Anyway, it feels like yesterday that I was just flipping the "Open" sign for the first time and selling to my first customer, and having an opening party.  Since then,  I have a lot to be thankful for.  I got married, had a baby, and weathered this crazy economy to stay open.  I am thankful everyday when I go to the store and see the pretty garden outside and am able to bring my little girl to work.  She gives a gummy smile to my regular customers, and warmly greets the new ones who finally have said to themselves (and to me..) "I have been driving past this store for months (and years) and finally decided to stop today."  So.. thank you!

Anyway, now thru 6/31/12, spend $50 or more and get a free bracelet.  Tell a friend, bring a friend, and thank you again!

My 10 year old self is my current style icon...

I love this photo of me with my dad and brother.  It was taken circa 1973 in Cherokee, Oklahoma      outside of my Grandfather's farm.  I grew up in warm weather climates, so wearing winter stuff was a novelty.  But the beret, knee socks, and plaid jacket said it all.  The only thing that I still rock is the long blonde hair, and that's getting trimmed next week.  Stay tuned.

Keeping it together...

Today my husband & I celebrated the 6 month birthday of our little girl, Bonnie-Blue Sunshine.

What a whirlwind life has been over the past year and half... marriage and a baby to a 40-something woman who was used to living the single life.

I have been at the boutique quite a bit, and most days you will see her with me.  I'll throw on my Moby wrap and carry her around, and sometimes customers even will hold her, help feed her, and get amused by her gummy smile.   I always thought that I was a multi-tasker, but this has taken it all to a whole new level.

I wouldn't have it any other way and thank my friends & family & cool customers who have been supportive along the way.  Here's to a fabulous spring and all of the twists & turns that life brings your way!

Happy 6 months, Bonnie-Blue Sunshine!

Inspiration LA, vintage style at the Queen Mary

I first found out about the Inspiration LA Vintage show last year when I picked up a postcard at Animal House, a cool vintage clothing store near my boutique in Venice. It immediately caught my attention...

I have attended many trade shows in my life, but I knew that this would be different. It is organized by a Japanese guy, Rin Tinaka, who was targeting it a fashion forward crowd who likes vintage, the Rose Bowl Flea market, and the Magic show in Las Vegas.

Dave (my hubby) agreed to come along, and baby Bonnie-Blue snuggled up as well. We made the trek down to Long Beach. It felt like a grown up field trip, what fun!

The booths were filled with on-the-pulse buyers and browsers who appreciate vintage clothing, american style. There were quite a few booths that highlighted old school biker gear, like this one.

And bandanas are back!

We walked away with plenty of inspiration... check out this old school "Hang Ten" sweater.

Alas, we found a cool denim change purse for Bonnie-Blue, and the resolve to go back next year.
